Sleep Is Secondary.

It has never been an ambition of mine to pull an all-nighter. No thanks. I think I’ll pass on those. I sure have tried several times for the sake of fun and friends, but never have I once pulled it off without a middle of the night nap or just crashing at 5:00 AM. I think I speak on behalf of many when I say this, but I really like and really need sleep. So when I hopped on a plane a couple months ago headed toward Uganda, Africa,  I would not have anticipated that staying up all night was in … [Read more...]

Back To the Cornfields! (DTS Lecture Phase: Week 10)

Hi friends! Well, as you probably know, I'm back in the cornfields (or actually lack thereof at this point in time) of Wisconsin for the final couple weeks of lecture phase! I can hardly believe that this part of DTS is almost over and that before long I will be on a plane above the Atlantic Ocean headed to Uganda, Africa. :) Last week, I had a four-day break at home over Thanksgiving weekend and it was great! I loved being with friends and family and catching up with people in general. I … [Read more...]

The Last Two Weeks… [Summary of Holy Spirit & Roots Weeks]

I always seem to have the issue of "Where do I begin?" whenever I sit down to write a blog post, because honestly, it's a little hard to accurately summarize what life is like in a blended family of almost 50 people. Never a boring or dull moment, that's for sure! (Including at 2:30AM when we were awakened to the sight of a chicken in our dorm room.) I know I'm overdue on a blog post, and I will do my best to share some of the happenings of the last two weeks.   Last week, we had … [Read more...]

Hello, Goodbyes.

(I wrote this a couple days ago as a personal reflection and thought it may be interesting to some of you who read my blog. Enjoy!)  This morning as I was grabbing milk out of the fridge, my eye happened to glance at a picture that had been residing in that spot for many months. It was a photo of my mom with Anaejah, an elementary age girl that my mom mentored through Kids Hope for a couple years. Even though I have seen this picture many times before, for some reason it struck me differently … [Read more...]

Hearing God’s Voice (Practical Points)

The last post I did here on the good ol’ blog was about hearing God’s voice. This is something that over the last few years has become increasingly important and relevant in my relationship with God. I have been privileged to learn from a lot of people on how they hear from God, and I thought based on my last post that I should share some of the more practical points of this topic. There is no specific formula to hear God, because God is relational, and in relationships there are no formulas. … [Read more...]

Hearing God’s Voice.

“And God said ‘Let there be light’ and there was light.” Genesis 1:3The creation account as told in the early chapters of Genesis is one that is widely known within Christians. Over the centuries, this story has been told and retold in various expressions from an elaborate piece of artwork to simplified picture books for children. I have written this post with the assumption that you are already familiar with the creation story as told in the Bible, but if not (or maybe you need a refresher), I … [Read more...]

The Next Step.

“May God break my heart so completely that the whole world falls in.” ― Mother TeresaHello friends! Many of you are aware to at least some extent of the incredible ways God has been at work in my heart and life over the past several years. First and foremost, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank those of you who have played a role in what God has been doing in and through me. Many of you have invested time, money, and countless prayers into the opportunities God has so … [Read more...]

To Know His Heart: The [Only] One Who Satisfies.

Yesterday I was reading a short daily devotional that I have called "Jesus Calling" and it was as if the words were written specifically for me.Jesus Calling: December 8Your needs and My [God's] riches are a perfect fit. I never meant for you to be self-sufficient. Instead, I designed you to need Me not only for daily bread, but also for fulfillment of deep yearnings. I carefully crafted your longings and feelings of incompleteness to point you to Me. Therefore, do not try to bury or deny these … [Read more...]

To Know His Heart: The One Who Chose You

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything I have learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: … [Read more...]

India…Here We Go!!!

I am so excited, thankful, and amazed to be going back to India. There are really no adequate way to describe all of the joys and struggles that have brought me to this point. What a treasure I have already received from this trip, and one that I know I will continue to reap the blessings from forever. There are so many things that God and God's wonderful people have brought to my attention in relation to this trip: things such as being open to the Holy Spirit's leading, the love we ought to have … [Read more...]
