What’s Ahead?

As I take a moment to reflect and remember all the amazing places God has brought me over the last four and a half years, I recall that God has faithfully led me step by step. From my first trip to India as a fourteen-year-old, to my most recent overseas adventure as a team leader in Japan, I have truly tasted and seen my Savior’s goodness in my own life and in the far-flung corners of the world. I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on where I have been and share some exciting news about where God is leading me next. Watch the video below to see a visual recap as to some of the major places God has led me over the years.

To give a brief summary of what I have been up to the last year or so, I graduated from high school in May 2014 and in September 2014 I was off to Madison, Wisconsin to do a six-month DTS (Discipleship Training School) through YWAM (Youth With A Mission). I completed my DTS in March 2015 and came back to Michigan. This summer, in between working a few different jobs, I was blessed with the chance to help lead a short term outreach to Japan for high school students. This past year has been by far the most transformational year of my life, and it’s exciting to know that this is just the beginning for a lifetime of adventure and friendship with God.

Because of all the short term missions experiences I have had, I began to realize that this is a path that God leading me down for the long-term. With all the changes and moving around the last year has brought, I started to hope God would lead me somewhere for a longer period of time, somewhere I could become truly invested. I had assumed that would mean staying in the greater Grand Rapids area for a while, but through much prayer and consideration, I found out God had something else in mind.

With that said, I have committed to join staff at YWAM Madison for two years starting in late November! I will start by working with the January DTS, which will have focuses in the arts, worship, and children at risk, all areas that are passions of mine. My responsibilities with the DTS will be widely varied, including discipling students in small groups and one-on-one, helping lead an outreach mission trip in the spring, and assisting in any area needed to help the school run smoothly.

Within the next couple of months before I head off to Madison, I am staying busy doing child care for two different families, as well as meeting with people to build a support team as I enter into this new season of full-time ministry. As excited and ready as I am to plunge into this new adventure, I am also incredibly grateful for the time I have here at home with family and friends and to keep practicing persistence and faithfulness in my walk with Jesus.
